Notes Of The Day June 25th 2012

• Formal CBA will start very quickly after Wendesday's NHLPA meetings.
• @APortzline was reporting that the Blue Jackets were offered all of the New York Islanders' picks to move up two spots in the draft.
• It looked like Nash to Ottawa was a done deal, but apparently, Ottawa is not on Nash's list and is holding up the deal.
• So much for the Pavlec going to KHL rumors. He's signed a new deal for 5 years worth $19.5M. According to Bob McKenzie of TSN it breaks down to $3.25M for year one, $3.5M for year two, $3.75M for year three, $4.25M for year four, and $4.75M for year five. This is interesting seeing that there were rumors the KHL offered him $5M tax free...

Notes of The Day

• Michael Farber of SI.com says that Radulov and Kostitsyn broke curfew by one hour and were at Poolside of the W an alcohol free soiree.
• Darren Dreger of TSN is saying that Habs GM Marc Bergevin has been talking to Leafs GM Brian Burke a lot about getting assistant GM Rick Dudley to join before the draft but Brian Burke is not that big on that idea right now.
• Semin is gone from the Capitals and even maybe the NHL? Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun is reporting that in the offseason the Caps will not try to resign UFA Alexander Semin.
• Sports.ru is reporting that Islanders prospect Krill Kabonov will be going to the KHL.
• Flyers beat writer Sam Charchidi is reporting the Flyers' surgery list is so long it won't be released till next week. (TwoBoredTeens note: That's a little worrisome for fans.)

Just a few quick notes and news from the afternoon

• Carey Price has been diagnosed with a "mild" concussion. This may be something to be worried about as this may lead to a James Reimer like performance, with him coming back and being unable to maintain his production before his injury. Not to scare Habs fans but don't forget, Nathan Horton has been out with a "mild" concussion since Feburary.
• Tyler Myers will be out for at least the rest of the regular season with a foot injury. We don't know about the playoffs.
• Carl Gunnarson has a seperated shoulder and will be out for the year.
• P.A. Parentau's agent hassaid that he has recieved zero offers to keep his client in Long Island.
• The most sought after college player right now D Justin Schultz has not decided and will probably try the UFA market this year.
• Calgary is not interested in a "Edmonton-like" rebuild.

Evgeni Nabokov Re-Signs

Previously pending UFA goalie Evegeni Nabokov has re-signed with the New York Islanders for one more year at the price of $2.5 Million. He was expected to be a hot commodity this year when he would hit free agency. With many teams interested in a goalie, (Toronto, Tampa Bay, Columbus, Philadelphia, Chicago) this is a significant blow to the quality of goalies in free agency market.

Remaining goalies for this Free Agency that stand out include,

Cristobal Huet: Probably not coming back and certainly not his contract size.
Martin Brodeur: If he's returning its in New Jersey
Dwayne Roloson: His age is a large problem.
Antero Niitymaki: Probably the best backup available left.
Thomas Vokoun: Will probably sign on with Washington for another year.
Jonas Gustavsson: If he does not re-sign with the Maple Leafs, he will be a hot commodity.
Martin Biron: Seems content in New York.
Josh Harding: Will be a goalie highly sought after.

Frans Nielsen Contract Extention

Frans Nielsen has just signed a 4 year, $11m contract extension. Nielsen is now 27 and his contract will take him to the 2016 season. He has 25 points in 52 games this season for the New York Islanders.

Team Canada: Most Impressed

So far after two games who impressed the staff the most?

Scott Wedgewood: Shutout plus an assist after two periods? Yes. Drafted in the 3rd Round? Even better.
Ryan Strome: 11 Points in a game and two periods? He's something special. The Islanders have something special going.
Scott Harrington: He's not the flashiest player or the player who gets the points but he's hardworking. You won't see him that often unless you focus on him. If I were a new GM and I need to draft a team, he's definitely on it. Not that he's the guy who will get you points ,but the character leader of the team.

Christmas Special: New York Islanders

Team Wishlist: The "mysterious" disappearance of the insanely large contract of Rick DiPietro. He has been horrible since signing the ridiculous 15 year contract oh so many years ago. Ever since that he's had who knows how many concussions and groin injuries. I think DiPietro just gets injured on purpose so he doesn't need to go to work ,but still get paid. Remember when he was the future goalie of Team USA? Yeah those days. It's impossible for him now eh? Ryan Miller is the goalie of USA. Rick DiPietro is a quality goalie when he's not hurt. Trust me. He's actually a really good goalie,but he's just always injured. I bet Garth Snow could rip the contract if he could...
