Boogaard Given Prescriptions?

The New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild medical teams gave deceased player Derek Boogaard hundreds of prescriptions for thousands of pills according to documents compiled by Boogaard's father Len. According to the Minnesota Star Tribune here are some of the prescriptions (full article here: http://www.startribune.com/sports/wild/156927415.html):

• In a six-month stretch from October 2008 to April 2009, while playing 51 games, Boogaard received at least 25 prescriptions for the painkillers hydrocodone or oxycodone, a total of 622 pills, from 10 doctors — eight team doctors of the Wild, an oral surgeon in Minneapolis and a doctor for another NHL team.
• In the fall of 2010, an official for the Rangers, Boogaard's new team, was notified of Boogaard's recurring abuse of narcotic pain pills. Nonetheless, a Rangers team dentist soon wrote the first of five prescriptions for hydrocodone for Boogaard after he sustained an injury.

Prust suspended one game.

Brandon Prust has been suspended for one game by the league for the hit on Devils Anton Volchenkov. Is the elbow worth one game? A fine? More? Comment below!

Really? 39 Seconds?

Yesterday before the Ottawa/New York game, Matt Carkner was included in to the lineup. Carkner skated a whole 39 seconds before this broke out. (Note: The feed is from MSG, which in my opinion, is pretty biased...)

This is "retaliation" from Game 1 when Boyle started throwing punches at Karlsson. Carkner was ejected (fighting, game misconduct), as well as Brandon Dubinsky because he was the third man in. Carkner has a hearing with the league at 12PM. What do you think? Fine? Suspension? COMMENT BELOW!

Quick News From Around The League

• No official confirmation but the buzz around the league is that Alexander Radulov has been granted permission to go back to the NHL. There is also talk that he would not need to clear waivers before re-joining the Predators.

• The NHL's GM confirm and accept the Hybrid icing rule. The Hybrid rule is that when the forward and defender are chasing after a puck, instead of the back line it will be at the face off dot. If the defenseman is winning at the faceoff dot, it will be an icing call, but if the forward is winning, the game continues. 

• Sean Avery told the New York Post that he is indeed retiring after this his current contract ends, which is this season, "No, that wasn't a joke, yes I'm retiring at end of season and its ok"

Apparent Final Offer for Nash.

After the Deadline passed and Rick Nash wasn't traded as well as GM Scott Howson blaming the trade talks on Nash, rumors have come on what the Rangers offered. It was widely believed that the package Howson demanded has to have either Michael Del Zotto or Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan or Carl Hagelin,  Chris Kreider, and Brandon Dubinsky. What surprised me was that Howson did not include a first round draft pick. In a lighter note, we're also surprised Howson didn't want the Connecticut Whales. However, then we remembered Sean Avery and Wade Redden were there.


The New York Rangers countered with a final offer near the deadline of 3 P.M. EST with a package of Brandon Dubinsky, Tim Erixon, J.T. Miller, Christian Thomas, and a first round pick.

Wojtek Wolski traded to Florida

Wojtek Wolski has been to Florida in exchange for young defenceman Mike Vernace and a third round pick.
Wolski, 26, only played 9 games this year for New York and had 3 points. He spent the rest of the season in the minors.

Winners
Alson: I have to go with the Rangers. Wolski is in the minors for a reason and a third round pick was all he was really worth. However, I still give Wolski credit. He is absolutely amazing in shootouts and this move gives him a fresh start. I am also hearing maybe the Wolski trade is only a precursor.. Time will tell.

Wexler: I think Rangers won this deal only for one purpose. The fact that they dumped Wolskis's contract on another unlucky team, Florida!!!

Mahbod: Rangers are the winners. Wolski just wasn't fitting in and I don't see how he would fit in with Florida either. Vernace is a good puck-moving offensive defenceman and that third round pick is a nice tradeable asset.

Kyle: Florida, since this could be Wolski's wake up call. His ice time has dwindled ever since he arrived at MSG. A change of scenery and more ice time will do Wojtek good and he will put up more points with the Panthers.

Wexler's rumor: I heard J.S. Giguere's name brought up by teams in need of a solid backup going into the playoffs.

Alson + Wexler's rumor: There's lots of rumors about Rick Nash going to the Philadelphia Flyers for Sean Couturier or Brayden Schenn, James Van Riemsdyk, or Wayne simmonds plus a 1st Round pick (2012) . We've also heard that Jack Johnson, Dustin Penner, and Johnathan Bernier in exchange for Rick Nash. However, there were also rumblings that Jack Johnson may have complained that he would be unhappy there. On his short list he submitted I can confirm that the Toronto Maple Leafs and the LA Kings. Rumored teams include the Sharks and the Bruins. I can also confirm that Leaf's GM Brian Burke met with CBJ GM Scott Howson over breakfast at a New York hotel.


Wexler's rumor: Hearing Hawk's Patrick Kane is available in exchange for Buffalo's Ryan Miller.


Alson + Wexler's rumor: Grabovski will be traded if he does not resign. He clearly wants to stay with his entire family here, but is looking for $5 Million a year. It may be too much for GM Brian Burke and teams interested include the Senators and Islanders.


Mahbod's rumor: Kyle Quincey's name has been named. No word yet on which teams are interested. Also, the Anaheim Ducks seem to be interested in Ryan Miller.


Alson's rumor: The Edmonton Oilers are looking at a long term soloution for goaltending. Tukka Rask, Corey Schneider and Johnathan Bernier have all been named. I heard the LA Kings wanted Linus Omark and either Magnus Paajarvi and a 2nd or 1st round pick with that.


Alson's rumor: There's talk that the Colorado Avalanche are interested in Columbus Blue Jackets' Jeff Carter. Also a lot of talk about Ales Hemsky being traded. Nashville and LA being named...


Kyle's rumor: Multiple sources confirm that the Philadelphia Flyers have withdrawn from the Rick Nash sweepstakes since they acquired Nicklas Grossman and Pavel Kubina.


Also, as per Darren Dreger tweets, The New York Rangers are the front runners for Rick Nash.

There is a rumor that Ales Hemsky of the Edmonton Oilers could be dealt to the Nashville Predators for Ryan Ellis and a draft pick.

We don't want to bombard you with posts, so we're going to have one big posts of a bunch of rumors. It's pretty much a well known fact that the teams are going to be calling like crazy this weekend.

So let's start the fun!

1:06 Rumor - The Detroit Red Wings have spoken to the Buffalo Sabres about Paul Gaustad and/or Brad Boyes. The Red Wings are only willing to part with picks in return.

1:08 Rumor - The St. Louis Blues are having continually discussions with the Montreal Canadiens, names have included Gill, Kostitsyn. No word on what the St. Louis Blues are willing to give back in return. Habs GM Pierre Gauthier is waiting till the trade deadline until making any big moves.

1:08 Rumor/Confirmed (Hearing mixed things...) -  The San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks, and Chicago Blackhawks have all either reconsidered or withdrawn offers for the Montreal Canadien's Travis Moen due to Moen's injury.

1:11 Confirmed - Andy Sutton has signed a one year contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers. Details to come. This could mean he is off the trade market or is a signal for a sign and trade with another team...

2:35 (sorry for the lack of posting. Just no rumors for me to write about...) Rumor - NYR are interested in Hal Gill as well.

Wojtek Wolski has been sent down to the AHL Connecticut Whales.

Just an author's note. That makes the salary of the Rangers extremely high. Don't forget Wade Redden ($6.5 Million), Wojtek Wolski ($4 Million), and Sean Avery ($4 Million). Put it in perspective for our readers, Wade Redden earns the AHL minimum yearly salary of $37,500 in one period.

The Minnesota Wild have traded W Casey Wellman and a 2012 7th Round Pick to the New York Rangers in exchange for C Erik Christensen.

Analysis:
Casey Wellman is a good winger that has good hands. He excels at the AHL level but after multiple stints in the NHL, he hasn't been able to excel there.

Erik Christensen is a third line center. He's amazing on shootout goals but has been bouncing around the AHL and the NHL.

New York Rangers: Top Tier Team or Lucky Streak?

The New York Rangers are on top of the NHL, boasting a record of 26-9-4, beating the next teams, Pittsburgh and Vancouver, by 3 points.

Everything seems to be clicking for them, Lundqvist is a top goaltender who can shut down teams, the back up Martin Biron is good enough to be a starter. Marian Gaborik seems to have re found his scoring touch (23 goals, 34 points). Newly acquired centre Brad Richards seems to thrive in the spotlight at MSG. Captain Ryan Callahan is doing nicely after being appointed the leader of the team. The only disappointment in my opinion, would be Brandon Dubinsky, but he is starting to heat up as well.

The coach, John Tortorella, has satirical post game comments (including one after the Winter Classic about the officiating which got him fined).

The Rangers weren't always like this. Barely squeaking in the playoffs last year as the eighth seed, they were dispatched by the Capitals in 5 games. During the offseason, they signed coveted free agent Brad Richards, physical winger Michael Rupp, resigned RFA captain Ryan Callahan. Yes, Ranger's GM Glen Sather seems to have readied his team for the playoffs during the 2011-2012 season with his major deals. Sure the team looks good on paper, but would the team perform and work together during the season?

A little bit over 1/3 through the NHL season, the Ranger's have quashed any doubts about that issue, but can they finish the season strong as the number 1 seed? We can't know that for sure but right now, the Rangers are the best team in the league.

Moves like Jagr?

The Ranger's first goal, by Michael Rupp, had a lot of controversy over it because he supposedly copied Jaromir Jagr's way of celebrating a goal. Jagr wasn't angry at Rupp and he even quipped that Rupp doesn't score a lot of goals. Rupp said he did it for fun and he didn't mean to disrespect Jagr. Hmmmm, do you think he's got the Moves like Jagr? :)

Christmas Special: New York Rangers

Team Wishlist: Someone to take Sean Avery. He's now the ineffective goon that doesn't really do much.. He doesn't get many points and he gets in to controversies and gets in to fights, arguments, and lawsuits. He really needs to stop it get his game on, stop getting in to suspensions and telling people to go for his "sloppy seconds".
