Notes Of The Day June 22nd 2012

Just some notes for the day:

• Tim Thomas has waived his NMC. It was set to expire on July 1st. Teams just on the cap floor may be interested in his services. However, it will not affect his decision on returning.
• Keith Yandle is in play, and teams such as the New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues are involved, and players like Brandon Dubinsky are being named in return.
• According to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: As for Nash trade? Howson said no offers are close. "They have a ways to go yet."
• Renaud Lavoie of RDS is reporting that the Philadelphia Flyers are trying to move up in the draft. The Anaheim Ducks' 6th overall pick is being named.
• According to @NHLWiki the Ottawa Senators are now the front runners for Columbus Blue Jackets' Rick Nash with the offering being Ben Bishop, Mika Zibanejad, and Nick Foligno. 
• The 2013 Draft will take place in New Jersey and Philadelphia in 2014.
• According to Team 1200 in Ottawa, the last issue before the Rich Nash deal is done, is budget.
• Swiss star Damien Brunner has signed a one year deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

Keith Yandle Available?

There are talks everywhere from Darren Millard to Eklund are all saying that Coyotes Keith Yandle is available for trade. Darren Millard is also reporting a deal is almost close. However, it is not currently known who would he bring back or where he would go. However, I personally believe that since it's so close to the Draft, if he is to be traded, it will be on the Draft Floor.

Notes of The Day May 22nd 2012

• Is there a snag on the deal for the Phoenix Coyotes? There are rumors out there that the Goldwater Institute, yes the same one as last time, could be suing to block the deal. Byron Schlomach of the Goldwater Institute said, " the proposed management fee to the team is too high, because comparable facilities garner around $10 million. That could be reason for the group to sue, he said." in an interview with Bloomberg.
• Michael Murphy formerly of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Charlotte Checkers has joined an KHL team. He has not told anyone which KHL team he has signed with. In 37GP this year, he won 18 and had a SV% of .908.

Phoenix advances to the Western Conference Final to face LA

The Western Conference Finals is now officially Phoenix vs. Los Angeles. That should be interesting because they both have teams. However, I think LA has an advantage because not only do they have an amazing goalie, but they have fantastic offence. Phoenix lacks in offence, (don't say "what about Doan?") but their strong defencemen and goalie make up for it. This should be an exciting series because both teams eliminated their opposition last round with 1 or less loss. I'm looking for this series to get to Game 7.

Rostislav Klesla suspended for one game.

Rostislav Klesla has been suspended for one game by the league for a behind the back hit on Nashville's Matt Halischuk. Do you think one game is enough? Comment below!

Coyotes Deal Done?

There are talks that the Phoenix Coyotes deal is done with the Greg Jamison group. The deal is expected to be announced today in Glendale by commisioner Gary Bettman. This is a significant blow to cities looking forward to an NHL team such as Seattle, Kansas City, Markham, Las Vegas, and Quebec City.

12:22 Don't expect anything before 4-5PM. Expected to be announced tonight.
9:04 Watching the presser. Deal is in place. Coyotes are staying.
9:23 Sorry interpreted wrong. No deal in place, no lease agreement in place between Jamison and Glendale. Just an update on how close the deal is.

Could the Phoenix deal be done soon?

Glendale investor Greg Jamison gathered enough investors to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes. There are talks that the deal could be finalized by May 8th. This could be a significant blow to Quebec, Kansas City, Seattle, and Markham. They all want franchises and Phoenix was the only one available all these areas will have to wait for the next franchise to come.

End of the Coyotes?

Another end to the Coyotes' ?Glendale councilman Phil Leiberman came out today stating that, "As far as I'm concerned, the Coyotes' effort in Glendale is over." He belies that the city should not give any money to a new owner and that it's a waste of money. He also says that the city should just put add in more shows and create a $4 surcharge to make the arena a economically viable area. With those words, the debate becomes where would a economically viable place for the Yotes' be?

Just a few suggestions,
Hamilton, Ontario: Hockey starved market, and owner, but it doesn't make sense economically, the Leafs and Sabres would want a huge chunk of relocation and royalty fees.

Seattle, Washington: Hockey starved market as well, and with a new arena, this is the most logical choice.

Quebec City, Quebec: Hockey starved market, rabid fans, government wants a team back after Nordiques departure.

3 overrated and 3 underrated players on the block

With the trade deadline approaching, we take a look at the top 5 overrated players and the top 5 underrated players on the trading block this year.

3 Overrated Players

1. Sam Gagner, C  Edmonton Oilers
   He's been getting so many hype ever since he had that crazy 8 point night against Chicago. Even though he's been on a good run, he's overrated because he hasn't been consistence offensively.

2. Rick Nash, LW  Colombus Blue Jackets
    Because he is an all-star and an Olympian, many people think he is the best player out there. He does have size and skill that make him attractive but he is having a terrible season right now. He didn't contribute much in the olympics. they tried him on the first line but he failed and ended up on the fourth line.

3. Derek Roy, C   Buffalo Sabres
    Roy isn't a bad player but he is not worth that much. He puts up god numbers but his playoff performances are sup-par. If you want to make the playoffs and have a deep run, he's not your guy.

3 Underrated Players

1. Ray Whitney, LW   Phoenix Coyotes
    The desert is known to always hide players. Ray Whitney has quielty been piling up points and at 39 years of age, he's leading the Coyotes in points. He won a cup with the Canes so he has the experience and the veteran leadership.

2. Ryan Suter, D    Nashville Predators
    Shea Weber has been given much credit for the extremely strong defensive game of the Preds. weber's defensive pair has also been a strong leader both on and off the ice. The Preds must have been really happy when they drafted those two in the 2003 draft (Suter was drated 5th, weber was drated 49th)

3. Lubminor Visnovsky, D    Anahiem Ducks
    Visnovsky has always been a terrific puck-moving defensemen. When he started out with the Kings, LA basically tried to cover the existence of him until he started producing too much to not get noticed. Last year, he led defensmen in points. Need I say more?

Vermette Traded to Coyotes

The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded away Forward Antoine Vermette to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Curtis McElhinney, a 2nd round pick (2012, acquired from Ottawa in the Turris deal), & a 5th round pick conditional (2013). The condition is that if the Phenoix Coyotes get past the first round of the playoffs, it turns in to a 4th round pick.

Winners:
Wexler: I'm gonna say Phoenix wins this one because they brought in a top 6 forward for the price of almost nothing. Vermette will help the surging Coyotes to a higher position in the West and during the playoffs. The only advantage for the Blue Jackets is that they got a 2nd round pick but that pick will not be too significant down the stretch for them.

Kyle: Phoenix because Vermette will add secondary scoring to Phoenix's offence. McElhinney won't ever be a starting NHL goaltender unless he starts playing better. The second and fifth round picks will be around the median of the NHL. I think Columbus will deal those picks for a veteran forward/goaltender for next season.

Mahbod: In my opinion, Phoenix came out on top. Vermette is a sure 19+ goal scorer. Like Alson said, McEllhinney will just fit in with the Blue Jackets mid-tier goalies like Sanford, Dekanich and York. The 2nd and 5th round picks are good for Columbus in their rebuild stage because they can use them to wheel and deal some nice players. Again, I rather have Vermette over a third string goalie and draft picks.

Alson: This is a close one but I gotta go with Phoenix. Vermette is a proven scorer and McElhinney will just add on to the number of average goalies that the Columbus Blue Jackets have in their system (Curtis Sanford).

Gilbert Brule To Phoenix

The Phoenix Coyotes have picked up C Gilbert Brule on Re-Entry Waivers from the Edmonton Oilers.

Analysis: He is a draft bust. Period. Taken 6th Overall, above the likes of Anze Kopitar (11th Overall), Jack Skille (7th Overall), and Devin Setoguchi (8th Overall). He's a third line player that can have rare flashes of brilliance that can make him a second liner at times. He's a lot like a Kyle Turris the fact that they are both draft busts and had such great potential. Comes at a lot cheaper price though.

Christmas Special: Phoenix Coyotes

Team Wishlist: Have an actual owner aka not NHL and move to a city where they make money. The team is losing money like there's no freaking tomorrow. NHL is supporting them while they lose money. No one really goes to the game. I bet you there could be a dirty laundry convention at Jobing.com Arena and there would be more viewers there than at a Yotes game. Why does NHL try to lose money there. You know instead of losing money there they could just give the fans some money. I mean it's like throwing money away ,so why not just give it away. It could probably count as a charity and be tax exempt. See I just saved the NHL money. I should be the NHL's accountant. Oh wait that's a stressful job. Trying to convince Gary Bettman that Phoenix is losing money is like telling a dead cat that it's dead. It's stupid, won't make sense and is the obvious.

Turris had been the talk of trades all season since he signed the deal. Now he has signed the contract and he has been dealt away.
