Quick News From Around The League

  • No official confirmation but the buzz around the league is that Alexander Radulov has been granted permission to go back to the NHL. There is also talk that he would not need to clear waivers before re-joining the Predators.

  • The NHL's GM confirm and accept the Hybrid icing rule. The Hybrid rule is that when the forward and defender are chasing after a puck, instead of the back line it will be at the face off dot. If the defenseman is winning at the faceoff dot, it will be an icing call, but if the forward is winning, the game continues.

  • Sean Avery told the New York Post that he is indeed retiring after this his current contract ends, which is this season, "No, that wasn't a joke, yes I'm retiring at end of season and its ok"

Lightning Could Have New AHL Affiliate

The Tampa Bay Lightning might have a new AHL affiliate next year.

The current Lightning AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, is in the final year of the 5 year deal that they signed with Tampa Bay.

The Lightning may not resign with Norfolk because the GM Steve Yzerman wanted to make travel easier for the prospects because they have long bus rides to travel for road games.

Syracuse is speculated to be at the top of the Lightning's list of new affiliates if they don't resign with Norfolk.

Syracuse Crunch team president, Howard Dolgon recently told reporters that he had a deal in place for a new NHL partnership, but did not name the team.

The assistant GM of the Lightning and GM of Norfolk didn't confirm the rumors of a Tampa Bay-Syracuse deal.

"We have not finalized any plans for next season at this time," BriseBois said in an email.

Nonetheless, a decision is expected to be made soon by Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman.

Radulov back in the NHL?

There is lots of talk that Alexander Radulov may return to the NHL. He still has one more year in his entry level deal. In the last four seasons in Ufa Salavat Yulayev of the KHL, he has consistently scored well. In 210 games over four seasons, he has sccored 91 goals and 163 assists, good for 254 points. That's good for 1.02 points per game. The main problem for the Predators is that when the Predators try to give him a contract offer, his KHL team gives him more money to lure him to stay.

This is where it gets interesting, unlike most players, he would not have to go through waivers and would join the Predators immediately if he decides to go back to the NHL. Do you think this is a fair exemption for him? It is widely known that if a player of his caliber will be picked up on waivers if he is brought over.

End of the Coyotes?

Another end to the Coyotes' ?Glendale councilman Phil Leiberman came out today stating that, "As far as I'm concerned, the Coyotes' effort in Glendale is over." He belies that the city should not give any money to a new owner and that it's a waste of money. He also says that the city should just put add in more shows and create a $4 surcharge to make the arena a economically viable area. With those words, the debate becomes where would a economically viable place for the Yotes' be?

Just a few suggestions,
Hamilton, Ontario: Hockey starved market, and owner, but it doesn't make sense economically, the Leafs and Sabres would want a huge chunk of relocation and royalty fees.

Seattle, Washington: Hockey starved market as well, and with a new arena, this is the most logical choice.

Quebec City, Quebec: Hockey starved market, rabid fans, government wants a team back after Nordiques departure.
