Tim Thomas taking the year off?

It has been widely reported in the media that Tim Thomas is considering taking the year off next to spend more time with his family. Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has not refuted these reports and admits that this is a possibility. This could be a significant blow because, even though they have a ready goalie Tukka Rask, Thomas' $5 Million cap hit still applies to the teams' salary cap.

This will be an interesting story that will lead to more discussion...

Nick Lidstrom retires.

A sure 1st ballot Hall Of Famer has called it a career. The prolific Nick Lidstrom has decided to call it a career after 20 seasons, all with the Detroit Red Wings. This is a huge loss for not only the Red Wings community, but for the hockey community as a whole. Lidstrom's departure will create a large defensive hole in Detroit's defensive corps and a need for a captain Motown.

Lidstrom set to retire.

After 20 years of playing on the blue line, Nicklas Lidstrom has decided to call it a career. They 42 year-old is expected to make his announcement this Thursday. He has played in 12 All-Star Games and has tallied 1,142 points. He got his first career hat trick last year. He finished with a career plus-minus of 450.

Even though it is not officially confirmed, it is widely believed that Lidstrom has decided to call it a career. All mainstream media outlets are reporting that he has called it career. Even Red Wings scout Hakan Andersson has confirmed it to Sportsblad that he will be hanging up the skates.

Leo Komarov joins Maple Leafs

It's official. Leo Komarov has signed on to the Maple Leafs for a one year deal. We reported this a while back, and we do not have confirmation on the clause we reported. This is a breaking news story. More will come.

Ducks May File Tampering Charges?

James O' Brien of Pro Hockey is saying that the Anaheim Ducks may file Tampering Charges toward a “team that already has gotten to Schultz.” Michael Russo Audio has also speculated that Justin Schultz may have already decided which team he would like to go to on July 1st. Early indications suggest that the Toronto Maple Leafs have the highest odds of landing the coveted UFA. He was drafted in the 2nd Round (43rd Overall) by who else? Leafs GM Brian Burke. Also, he is good friends with Leafs Defenseman Jake Gardiner. This is just a testament of how good he is, "Adam Wodon, the managing editor of College Hockey News, called Schultz "the best offensive defenseman in college hockey in a long, long time, but he will never be anything like Coffey or even Potvin. Habs Personnel News.

In recent developments, it seems that the Habs coaching job will not be going to Patrick Roy as initially thought, but instead to Bob Hartley. The media is abuzz and it seems like an unanimous decision that the next coach of the storied franchise will be Bob Hartley. He is currently coaching the ZSC Lions of the NLA, but he has an out cluase that he can use to leave the team.

It was also made official that former Blues Assistant Coach Scott Mellanby has left the St. Louis Blues organization to join the Habs as Director of Player Personnel.

Lastly, Fred Poulin of the Hockey News is reporting that the Memorial Cup winning Shawinigan Cataractes' head coach Eric Veilleux may be leaving Shawinigan and will join Hartley as an assistant coach of the Habs.
