Notes Of The Day June 22nd 2012

Just some notes for the day:

  • Tim Thomas has waived his NMC. It was set to expire on July 1st. Teams just on the cap floor may be interested in his services. However, it will not affect his decision on returning.
  • Keith Yandle is in play, and teams such as the New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues are involved, and players like Brandon Dubinsky are being named in return.
  • According to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: As for Nash trade? Howson said no offers are close. "They have a ways to go yet."
  • Renaud Lavoie of RDS is reporting that the Philadelphia Flyers are trying to move up in the draft. The Anaheim Ducks' 6th overall pick is being named.
  • According to @NHLWiki the Ottawa Senators are now the front runners for Columbus Blue Jackets' Rick Nash with the offering being Ben Bishop, Mika Zibanejad, and Nick Foligno.
  • The 2013 Draft will take place in New Jersey and Philadelphia in 2014.
  • According to Team 1200 in Ottawa, the last issue before the Rich Nash deal is done, is budget.
  • Swiss star Damien Brunner has signed a one year deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

THOMAS TAKES YEAR OFF.

IT'S OFFICAL. TIM THOMAS HAS ANNOUNCED ON HIS FACEBOOK PAGE THAT HE WILL BE TAKING THE YEAR OFF "TO FOCUS ON FAMILY, FAITH, AND FRIENDS".

THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY. MORE TO COME.

Tim Thomas taking the year off?

It has been widely reported in the media that Tim Thomas is considering taking the year off next to spend more time with his family. Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has not refuted these reports and admits that this is a possibility. This could be a significant blow because, even though they have a ready goalie Tukka Rask, Thomas' $5 Million cap hit still applies to the teams' salary cap.

This will be an interesting story that will lead to more discussion...

Trade

The Bruins recently traded C Zach Hamill to the Washington Capitols for LW Chris Bourque.

This trade probably had no hockey value but just to keep Ray Bourque, Chris Bourque's father, happy. Ray Bourque spent nearly his entire career in Beantown and probably wants his son to play with the same stoied franchise.

Washington wins the trade because they get a great young player for someone who is probably going to be a career minor player. Hamill was drafted 8th overall in the 2007 draft and should have some value

Just on a side note, 18 years from the day Hamill was drafted 8th overall in the 2007 draft, the Bruins made another 8th overall draft pick. Guess who that was: Ray Bourque

Notes of The Day

  • We start off with Luongo talk!
    • TSN's James Duthie is reporting that Luongo to submit a list with teams he will be willing to waive his NTC for.
    • Sportsnet's Dan Murphy is reporting that the Lightning are in the list.
    • MANY, MANY people in the know are agreeing that the Leafs are on the list.
    • Lots of rumors that in his exit interview Luongo has asked to be traded.
    • James Murphy of the Globe and Mail thinks that Luongo isn't worth too much with his age and his contract being an issue. Maybe a mid 1st rounder or a prospect?
  • Jimmy Murphy of ESPN believes Tim Thomas will be traded in the offseason.
  • Wings Tomas Holmstrom on retiring,  “I love the game, I would love to play three, four more years,” Holmstrom said. “It’s so much fun to come to the rink and everything. It’s just if the body can take it one more year or two more years. There’s lots of wear and tear on the body. Mentally, the last couple of years, you’ve got to go through the soreness, aches and pain, and it can be pretty tough during the regular season.” (Source: Detroit Free Press)
  • Damien Cox of the Toronto Star has said that the Leafs were given an option at the trade deadline for either Carter Ashton or Steve Downie in exchange for Keith Aulie. However, the main factor in choosing Ashton was that Downie is an RFA this year and is expecting more than $3 Million a year.

Marty Turco Signs with NHL Team.

Marty Turco has signed with the Boston Bruins for a one year contract. Per team terms, financial numbers will not be released at this time. He has also been placed on waivers, the fact that he has been signed after the trade deadline means he will be ineligible for the 2012 playoffs. He last played for EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian First Division this year.

Boston signs Boychuk to a three year extension.

For anybody speculating a Johnny Boychuk trade, that's not going to happen. Boychuk signed an extension with the Boston Bruins through the 2014-2015 season worth $10.08 Million. That's roughly $3.36 Million a year. A limited no-trade clause was agreed on as a part of the deal. "I think he’s 28 ... so that’s young. It used to be that you’d have a player like that under your – the rights to the player until he was 31, and then you’d think about signing 31-, 32-year-olds in the free market. He’s still young and still learning, and he’s an enthusiastic player, and as I said earlier, he wants to stay here." said Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli.

2012 All-Star Game Captains named

The two captains have been named for this year's all star game. Daniel Alfredsson and Zdeno Chara will take the stands as they prepare for the upcoming All-Star fantasy draft. Many questions though at the All-Star Draft. Will the Sedins twins get split up again like last year and who will go last overall. Last year, it was Phil Kessel and he's been on a tear so far this season. My predictions is that whoever gets drafted last will be in the top ten scoring in 2012-2013.

Your thoughts on the All Star game and Fantasy Draft. Comment Below!!!

Christmas Special: Boston Bruins

Team Wishlist: A bag of fairy dust to give them the luck they’ll need to repeat as Stanley Cup champions since the Detroit Red Wings did it in 1996 – 1997. Come on, who doesn't want to win another Stanley Cup? If you don't you're in the wrong freaking league... Also, for Tyler Seguin to wake up earlier and eat breakfast because it is the most important meal of the day right?

Author's thoughts: I wonder if players get in trouble for eating the wrong things at breakfast. I wonder if like Tim Thomas gets a stern talking to if he eats Frosted Flakes instead of Cheerios?

 ARE THE WAY TO GO!
