Lindback Traded.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have gotten their goalie for the future in Andres Lindback. Lindback along with a 7th Round Pick and Kyle Wilson was traded for two 2nd Round Picks, Sebastian Caron, and a 3rd Round Pick. The second round picks come from both Minnesota and Philadelphia.

Quote from Andres Lindback (source: NHL.com): “I’m very excited to now be with the Tampa Bay Lightning. I had some great years with Nashville but I was in a tough spot behind Pekka Rinne. My dream all my life has been to be a number one goalie in the NHL and I think I have a great opportunity to be that in Tampa Bay.”
“I’ve heard great things about the city of Tampa and the Lightning organization. I’m friends with Victor Hedman and he’s told me lots about the team there. I’m thrilled and excited to start next season with the Lightning.”
“It’s going to be great playing on such an offensive team. Obviously, having Steven Stamkos, Vinny and Marty on your team is exciting for anyone. It’s the kind of team I want to be a part of and excited to have this new opportunity ahead of me.”

Winners:
Alson: I think Nashville wins. Even though Tampa gets their goalie, Nashville gets two second round picks. Before the trade, the Preds had zero picks in the first two rounds. Now they have two. Also, they get a backup goalie back with Sebastien Caron. Lastly, Lindback is a RFA. He will be expecting a pay raise from his $875,000 if he is to be the #1 goalie that most people expect him to be.

Kyle: I say Tampa Bay because Tampa Bay finally gets their number one goalie that they crave so bad. Although Lindback is not very proven since he had limited playing time in Nashville, I believe his size will help his career as a number one goalie.

Players That Won't Be Back

Jason Blake and Niklas Hagman will not be back next year according to Anaheim Ducks.
Also, Nashville GM David Poile announced today that Andrei Kostitsyn will not return for next year as well. He will be a UFA. This could be big in re-signing start defenceman Ryan Suter.

Rostislav Klesla suspended for one game.

Rostislav Klesla has been suspended for one game by the league for a behind the back hit on Nashville's Matt Halischuk. Do you think one game is enough? Comment below!

Radulov and Kostitsyn suspended for game three.

Both Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn have both been suspended for Game Three of their playoff matchup against the Phoenix Coyotes. Nothing has been specified from the team at this time, and we do not expect anything to come out of this except for breaking "team rules".

There are talks out there that they were both partying until 4AM in Scottsdale and arriving back at the hotel at 5AM on a game day. We can't independently confirm it, but we believe that this is the case. Check back here for more news on this developing story.

NHL Tampering, Award Finalists, Luongo Trade Rumors, and More!

Quick Notes from the day:

  • Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo has told reporters that he will waive a NTC if the right situation comes.
    • There are reports from multiple people that he has submitted a list with teams he would be willing to waive his NTC for. There are also reports that this list does not exist.
    • @Aportzline is saying that the Blue Jackets may be interested in Luongo, but his monster deal is making him a last ditch resort.
      • His contract: $5.33 Million cap hit all the way to 2021-2022 and his clause is as follows, NTC (player can supply five-team trade list following final game of 2013-14, valid through July 15, 2014; if player does not submit trade list at that time, team can request a five-team trade list following final game of 2017-18 season, valid through Sept. 1, 2018). If player submitted a trade list in 2014 and was not moved, team loses right to request trade list in 2018. (Source: Capgeek.com)
  • Ray Shero is not sure he can re-sign both Jordan Staal and Sidney Crosby and feels that the CBA and their willingness to stay will be a determining factor if they can be re-signed. He also gave a vote of confidence to coach Dan Bylsma saying  “I think Dan Bylsma is the right coach for our team”.
  • @dchesnokov reports that Leafs' Mikhail Grabovski gave an interview to goals.by saying that there was another offer besides the offer from the Leafs he eventually accepted.
    • We are pretty sure that the offer did not come from an NHL team due to the tampering rules in place. Our only explanation is it is from a KHL team.
      • @dchesnokov is reporting maybe Minsk? or he said too much....
  • Bill Masterton Finalists:
    • D.Alfredsson (OTT)
    • J. Lupul (TOR)
    • M. Pacioretty (MTL)
  • GM of The Year Finalists:
    • D. Armstrong (STL)
    • D. Poile (NSH)
    • D. Tallon (FLA)

Radulov returns

Alexander Radulov has returned to the Nashville Predators after a stint in the KHL. An extremely gifted player, he has a really good resume in the KHL, being a two-time MVP and having won the KHL championship. he abandoned his contract after the 07-08 season to play in his native country russia. he's done well in the NHL, putting up some decent numbers. He arrives at a great time too. The preds have most likely secured a playoff spot and will need the extra scoring considering their leading goal scorer is only 46th overall and their top points getter is 45th overall.

Quick News From Around The League

  • No official confirmation but the buzz around the league is that Alexander Radulov has been granted permission to go back to the NHL. There is also talk that he would not need to clear waivers before re-joining the Predators.

  • The NHL's GM confirm and accept the Hybrid icing rule. The Hybrid rule is that when the forward and defender are chasing after a puck, instead of the back line it will be at the face off dot. If the defenseman is winning at the faceoff dot, it will be an icing call, but if the forward is winning, the game continues.

  • Sean Avery told the New York Post that he is indeed retiring after this his current contract ends, which is this season, "No, that wasn't a joke, yes I'm retiring at end of season and its ok"

Radulov back in the NHL?

There is lots of talk that Alexander Radulov may return to the NHL. He still has one more year in his entry level deal. In the last four seasons in Ufa Salavat Yulayev of the KHL, he has consistently scored well. In 210 games over four seasons, he has sccored 91 goals and 163 assists, good for 254 points. That's good for 1.02 points per game. The main problem for the Predators is that when the Predators try to give him a contract offer, his KHL team gives him more money to lure him to stay.

This is where it gets interesting, unlike most players, he would not have to go through waivers and would join the Predators immediately if he decides to go back to the NHL. Do you think this is a fair exemption for him? It is widely known that if a player of his caliber will be picked up on waivers if he is brought over.

Trade Overview

Here's an overview on the 2012 trade deadline

Biggest Trade

Cody Hodgson and Alexander sulzer to Buffalo for Zach Kassian and M-A Garagani.
- cody hodgson was in the run for the Calder Trophy and all of a sudden he gets traded. But the X-factor of this trade might actually be the two forwards but Garagani. He played amazing during the playoffs and has been struggling so far this year. puck moving defensemen are rare so he might make or break this trade.

Worst Trade

Paul Gaustad and 4th round pick to Nashville for a 1st round pick.
- what is buffalo thiniking. they are the smallest team in the entire league and they decide to get even smaller. they trade away Zach kassian (6-3) and Paul Gaustad (6-5) and they just lost all size up front. Buffalo completely loses out on this trade but they better draft a big forward in the up coming draft.

Trade that didn't happen.

obvioulsy the nash rumours. there was so much hype about Nash and he doesn't get traded. jackets GM Howson said Nash asked for a trade but there wasn't an offer that was good for the organization. rumours says that nash isn't changing the list so the nash rumours will come back on during Free Agency

More thoughts

less trades than last year (15 this year, 16 last year). two hours between first deadline trade and second one.
Teams that stayed out - Calgary, Washington, Philly, pittsburgh, carolina, dallas

3 overrated and 3 underrated players on the block

With the trade deadline approaching, we take a look at the top 5 overrated players and the top 5 underrated players on the trading block this year.

3 Overrated Players

1. Sam Gagner, C  Edmonton Oilers
He's been getting so many hype ever since he had that crazy 8 point night against Chicago. Even though he's been on a good run, he's overrated because he hasn't been consistence offensively.

2. Rick Nash, LW  Colombus Blue Jackets
Because he is an all-star and an Olympian, many people think he is the best player out there. He does have size and skill that make him attractive but he is having a terrible season right now. He didn't contribute much in the olympics. they tried him on the first line but he failed and ended up on the fourth line.

3. Derek Roy, C   Buffalo Sabres
Roy isn't a bad player but he is not worth that much. He puts up god numbers but his playoff performances are sup-par. If you want to make the playoffs and have a deep run, he's not your guy.

3 Underrated Players

1. Ray Whitney, LW   Phoenix Coyotes
The desert is known to always hide players. Ray Whitney has quielty been piling up points and at 39 years of age, he's leading the Coyotes in points. He won a cup with the Canes so he has the experience and the veteran leadership.

2. Ryan Suter, D    Nashville Predators
Shea Weber has been given much credit for the extremely strong defensive game of the Preds. weber's defensive pair has also been a strong leader both on and off the ice. The Preds must have been really happy when they drafted those two in the 2003 draft (Suter was drated 5th, weber was drated 49th)

3. Lubminor Visnovsky, D    Anahiem Ducks
Visnovsky has always been a terrific puck-moving defensemen. When he started out with the Kings, LA basically tried to cover the existence of him until he started producing too much to not get noticed. Last year, he led defensmen in points. Need I say more?

Preds - Florida trade.

Jerred Smithson of the Nashville Predators has been traded to the Florida Panthers for a 6th Round Pick.

Analysis:
Jerred Smithson is just your average dime a dozen fighter/ third or fourth liner. He has one goal and four assists and 30 PIMS in 53 games.

Winners:
Alson: Calgary wins this one. Even though Jerred Smithson is average, he has shown at times that he can score. The 6th round pick is well. Just a 6th round pick. It's not worth much.
Mahbod:
Kyle:I agree with Alson, a sixth round pick is useless and is probably going to be a career minor leaguer. Jerred has a chance of staying in the NHL if Calgary needs some grit.

Deadline Special!

Our deadline special consists of a bunch of names we have heard a lot from the media and sources a like. We will have a bunch of names and teams we believe are interested in the said player. We can't guarantee that the player will go that team, but we try to give you the best and quickest information as quickly as possible! So without further to do, here is our deadline special!

Wexler's rumor: I heard J.S. Giguere's name brought up by teams in need of a solid backup going into the playoffs.
Teams Interested:

Alson + Wexler's rumor: There's lots of rumors about Rick Nash going to the Philadelphia Flyers for Sean Couturier or Brayden Schenn, James Van Riemsdyk, or Wayne simmonds plus a 1st Round pick (2012) . We've also heard that Jack Johnson, Dustin Penner, and Johnathan Bernier in exchange for Rick Nash. However, there were also rumblings that Jack Johnson may have complained that he would be unhappy there. On his short list he submitted I can confirm that the Toronto Maple Leafs and the LA Kings. Rumored teams include the Sharks and the Bruins. I can also confirm that Leaf's GM Brian Burke met with CBJ GM Scott Howson over breakfast at a New York hotel.

Wexler's rumor: Hearing Hawk's Patrick Kane is available in exchange for Buffalo's Ryan Miller.

Alson + Wexler's rumor: Grabovski will be traded if he does not resign. He clearly wants to stay with his entire family here, but is looking for $5 Million a year. It may be too much for GM Brian Burke and teams interested include the Senators and Islanders.

Mahbod's rumor: Kyle Quincey's name has been named. No word yet on which teams are interested. Also, the Anaheim Ducks seem to be interested in Ryan Miller.

Alson's rumor: The Edmonton Oilers are looking at a long term soloution for goaltending. Tukka Rask, Corey Schneider and Johnathan Bernier have all been named. I heard the LA Kings wanted Linus Omark and either Magnus Paajarvi and a 2nd or 1st round pick with that.

Alson's rumor: There's talk that the Colorado Avalanche are interested in Columbus Blue Jackets' Jeff Carter. Also a lot of talk about Ales Hemsky being traded. Nashville and LA being named...

Kyle's rumor: Multiple sources confirm that the Philadelphia Flyers have withdrawn from the Rick Nash sweepstakes since they acquired Nicklas Grossman and Pavel Kubina.

Also, as per Darren Dreger tweets, The New York Rangers are the front runners for Rick Nash.

There is a rumor that Ales Hemsky of the Edmonton Oilers could be dealt to the Nashville Predators for Ryan Ellis and a draft pick.

Friday, February 17, 2012

Hal Gill traded.

Hal Gill of the Montreal Canadiens has been traded to the Nashville Predators along with a conditional fifth round pick (2013). In return, the Nashville Predators have given up Robert Slaney, Blake Geoffrion, and a second round pick (2012).

Analysis to come.

Winners:
Kyle: Canadiens because Gill is really only good for 1-2 more seasons. They also get Geoffrien, Slaney and the second round pick. In the end, Nashville must've been very desperate to obtain Gill because they gave up a lot to acquire him.
Wexler: Preds because bringing in Gill adds to there already tough defense. They are going into the playoffs with one of the strongest and underrated defense in the league and adding Gill makes their defense a lot  stronger.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Elliotte Friedman of CBC is reporting that the Edmonton Oilers are intrested in a defenseman. Like always with defenseman, the Toronto Maple Leafs' abundance of D-Man are mentioned. He also reports that don't be suprised Preds GM David Poile announces that Ryan Suter won't be traded.

Brandon Yip Claimed By The Nashville Predators

Winger Brandon Yip has been clamied on waivers by the Nashville Predators. The winger has been having a bad season with the Colorado Avalanche playing only ten games this season with zero points, eight PIM and a +/- of 1. This move by the Predators is more of a depth move, making the team depth and wing a bit more deep.

Talent Analysis:
He is a tough versatile winger that does go in to the dirty spots. His type of "dirty" is different from most players as he uses his stick to get the puck instead of using the body. He has the offensive talents needed to play as a full time second winger. He needs to be a bit more disciplined though. I see him as a third line winger.

Christmas Special: Nashville Predators

Team Wishlist: Someone who can score goals. Period. When your top goal getter has 8. and is ranked 103rd in goals in the NHL. You need goal scorers. Not saying thats bad when you have 6 guys who have 8 goals but you need someone to be getting at least 10 or 11 by now right?
