Brent Sutter Fired and then Rehired

Last Thursday, Brent Sutter and the Calgary Flames agreed to part ways after 3 years together. Less than 24 hours later, Sutter accepted the invitation to be the head coach of Team Canada at the Men's World Hockey Championship.

Sutter joins the assistant coaches, Kirk Muller and Guy Boucher, to round out the coaching staff on Team Canada.

This is Sutter's fourth occasion coaching Team Canada. He led the IIHF World Junior Championship to two gold medals during 2005 and 2006. He also had a 7-0-1 record as a coach in the 2006 Canada Russia Super Series.

As per's Mike Brophy, Eakins is a strong candidate to replace Sutter as the head coach of Calgary. Other candidates include Troy Ward, Mike Sullivan, Craig MacTavish, Bob Boughner, and Bob Hartley.
