Elliotte Friedman of CBC is reporting that the Edmonton Oilers are intrested in a defenseman. Like always with defenseman, the Toronto Maple Leafs' abundance of D-Man are mentioned. He also reports that don't be suprised Preds GM David Poile announces that Ryan Suter won't be traded.

Ironic isn't this?

Former Sens Nikita Filatov has been demoted to CSKA Moscow Minors. We had to report this because Filatov moved to Russia because he refused to report to the Binghamton Senators of the AHL. We wondered, will Filatov now report to the DEL instead?

Cool articles on TSN about rosters heading into the Trade Deadline
http://tsn.ca/blogs/scott_cullen/?id=386424
http://tsn.ca/blogs/scott_cullen/?id=386423

Minor League Trade.

The Calgary Flames have traded defenseman John Negrin to the Winnipeg Jets for winger Akim Aliu.

Negrin and Aliu are considered draft busts. Negrin has had one point in 26 games in the AHL. Aliu has 5 points in 13 games.

Tom Gleason off the Market

Tom Gleason, the name used often in rumors has been taken of the market. He has signed a four year extension with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Rumors Galore!

Not a specific team but a bunch of rumors!

Montreal Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier has not decided if he will be a seller or a buyer come Febuary 27th. Lots of rumors saying he wants a player like Derek Roy.

Lots of interest in Tuomo Ruutu. Philly, Toronto, Detroit have all been linked to him. However, the apparent asking price is through the roof. Apparently, Canes GM Jim Rutherford wants either two first rounders or a first rounder and an 'A' prospect (example: Joe Colbourne and a first rounder). The price will go down.

The Winnipeg Jets will be sellers. Lots of calls for players like Chris Mason, Nik Antropov, and Evander Kane.

Aaron Portzline is reporting: Expect a roster move today by the Blue Jackets as they have 12 healthy forwards and 6 defenseman. Jeff Carter could be close.

There's word that Jeff Carter wants out of Columbus but there's lots of worries on his contract. 10 Years $5.27 Million Per. (capgeek.com)

Major Leafs and Blue Jackets Rumor.

Bill Watters and @IncarceratedBob both reported that the Maple Leafs would get Rick Nash and Kristian Huselius from the Blue Jackets for Mikhail Grabovski, Luke Schenn, Nazem Kadri and Mike Komisarek.

According to Bill Watters:

Nash carries a $7.8 million cap hit until 2017-18. Huselius carries a $4.75 million cap and will be a UFA at the end of the season. Combined total for this year is $12.55 million.
Grabovski carries a $2.9 million cap hit this year and will be a UFA at the end of the year. Schenn signed a 5 year contract with a $3.6 million cap hit before this season. Kadri will have one more season after this year with a $1.72 million cap hit. Komisarek has a $4.5 million hit for the next 2 years. Combined total for his year is $12.72 million.

2012 NHL All-Star Game Recap

Team Chara beat Team Alfredsson 12-9 in the 2012 NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa, Ontario.
The game was knotted up until the third period, where Team Chara outscored team Alfredsson 6-3.

Alfredsson contributed 2 goals to his team, while Spezza, Henrik Sedin, Tavares, Michalek, Giroux, Daniel Sedin, and Pominville scored the rest of the goals for the team.

Marian Gaborik scored a hat trick while assistant captain Joffrey Lupul scored 2 goals. Malkin, Kane, Kessel, Iginla, Hossa, Chara and Perry scored the rest.

Gaborik took home the All-Star Game honours after scoring his hat trick early in the second period.

Lundqvist started the game out for Team Alfredsson, before giving way to Brian Elliot in the second period and then Jonathan Quick in the third.

Tim Thomas started the game for Team Chara and was replaced by Jimmy Howard in the second and Carey Price in the third.

Big Shake Up In Buffalo Imminent?

Sources everywhere are talking about how the Buffalo Sabres will be very aggressive from after the All Star Break till the trade deadline. I wouldn't be surprised if they pull off a blockbuster.

Blue Jackets Rumor.

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal is reportin that the Columbus Blue Jackets are trying to get rid of Steve Mason. However, no one wants his $3.2 Million contract. A last ditch resort is putting him on re-entry waivers and see if anyone is willing to pay $1.6 Million for him. Personally, I would love to have a young guy like him on my team for $1.6 Million. He's young, has potential, and just needs some help.

Sidney Crosby Injury Update

Today, Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby, was diagnosed with a neck injury while in Los Angeles. Over the next 48 hours, specialists will analyze Crosby's CAT scans and MRIs to determine the full extent of the injury.

To recap, Crosby had just come back from a concussion obtained from a hit by Lightning's defenseman Victor Hedman on January 5, 2011. He played in 8 regular season games in the 2011/12 season until he was sidelined again after experiencing concussion-like symptoms after a collision with Bruins' forward David Krejci.
Crosby is still expected to play with his club this season but there is no timetable for his return.

Trade.

Here at Two Bored Teens we love to break trades to you. Here we go!

TRADE:

Chicago Blackhawks acquire:
C Brendan Morrison

Analysis: Morrison is a good veteran center that can play on the second line. GM Stan Bowman has been looking for this type of player for a long time. He is on pace for 22 points.

Calgary Flames acquire:
D Brian Connelly

Analysis: Good fast defenseman. He is a good offensive defenseman that could play in the NHL right now if he wanted to. Needs to get stronger. Reminds me a lot of a smaller Jay Bouwmeester.

UPDATES:
9:06 Lots of rumblings saying this is just a small deal before it gets intense.

Traffic in Toronto?

The Leafs are in a good spot right now. They're ninth right now in the Eastern Conference and look like they can make the surge into the playoffs after early offseasons for the past few years. With the recent signing of Liles, their defensive corps is loaded for the next few while. They have like 5 defensive prospects coming up so some of them have to go. With the Leafs in need for some better quality at certain positions (goaltending), they could make some trades in the near future.

Also, there seems to be traffic down centre too Tim Connolly hasn't been playing up to par (he's on the third line) and they still need to sign Grabo. Steckel is playing great as a checking forward and Lombardi might have actually been the steal in that Nashville trade with some timely goals. Burke is still in love with Kadri so one of thems gonna go

Comment below on who do you think is staying in T.O. and whose taking the next flight out

Antero Niittymaki Re-Entry Waivers

Antero Niitymaki has been put on re-entry waivers. It's been the second time this year. He has not been in any games this season. Sources tell me that there's a pretty good chance that he gets claimed.

Update:
5:00 A recent interview with Niittymaki has this appearing,

"I'm on waivers? Nobody told me anything or called me."
"It's not a surprise. There was some talk yesterday. I'm glad they did it and are trying to do something."
"I don't want to be in this organization at all anymore, nothing wrong with city. Glad they did it, hope somebody picks me up."
"I'm not the hottest name in market and my salary isn't on my side either. $2 million is big money for someone who hasn't played much."

John Michael Liles signs a four year extension.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to announce the re-signing of defenseman John Michael Liles. He is currently out with a concussion. I expect the amount of money to be a bit lower than it is right now ($4.2 Million). The risk is that after a concussion it's just really unpredictable (See Sidney Crosby). Another worry is the abundance of defenseman the Leafs have (Percy, Blacker, Franson, Holzer, Gardiner). What will they be doing? Last worry. It is widely believed that if Liles was re-signed Mikhail Grabovski would not be re-signed. The trade market for him is going to insane for him.

Our bias: Not a good trade.

Update:
12:19: Annouced, 4 year $15.5Million
12:44 $3.875 Million per year.

Ovechkin suspended and skipping the All-Star Game?

After Ovechkin knew his fate for the next three NHL games, he has decided to skip the All-Star festivities as well.

The former scoring champ made the announcement Tuesday.

"I love the (All-Star) game, it's a great event and I love to be there, but I'm suspended and I don't want to be a target," Ovechkin told Comcast Sportsnet. "I feel that I don't deserve to be there right now. If I'm suspended, I have to be suspended, so that's why I gave up my roster (spot)."

His suspension for his hit on Zbynek Michalek did not cut him out of the ASG, he made the decision himself.

"It's not about what I want, I don't deserve to be there right now. I'm suspended until February 4th," he said.

The captain iterated that he did not agree with his suspension at all.

"I don't think I deserve the three game suspension for the hit I did. Lots of guys make that hit, but it's not about that," explained Ovechkin, "It is what it is, and it's (Brendan) Shanahan's call."

When asked about what he will do during the break, he said that he would support his team mates during his suspension.

The league has not named the replacement for Ovechkin's roster spot yet.

Ovechkin Suspended

Alexander Ovechkin, captain of the Washington Capitals has been suspended by league disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan for his hit on Zbynek Michalek of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Ovechkin has been suspended three games and is eligible to return on February 4th. He is still able to play in the All Star game though.

The hit on Michalek was pretty brutal and Shanahan stated that the hit was the main reason for the suspension. The fact that Ovechkin is a repeat offender also factored into the suspension.

This is Ovechkin's third suspension of his career, the first coming from a knee on knee hit on Tim Gleason and the second being a reckless hit on former Blackhawks defenceman Brian Campbell.

This is bad news for the Capitals, who are already missing Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Green. Now they lost their captain for 3 games. How will the Caps fare? Let us know in the comments!

Trade.

The Carolina Hurricanes trade Alexei Ponikarovsky to the Devils for Joe Sova and a 4th round pick.

Analysis:
Alexei Ponikarovsky - Good grinder, can score every now and then. Big body willing to use it.

Joe Sova: Mobile Defenseman. Can get points in the NCAA level. Project him as a 2-3 pairing D-Man.

Is Ben Bishop's time in St. Louis done?

Ben Bishop's name has been thrown around a lot  in trade talks. Young goalies, even if unproven have been a hot commodity this year. Players like Josh Harding and Johnathan Bernier have become players of high price. With the extension of Brian Elliot, and the long contract of Jaroslav Halak, Ben Bishop doesn't have much of an opportunity to be a NHL goalie in St. Louis. What happens between now and trade deadline date remains to be seen. If he doesn't get traded, and becomes a free agent, this is where it gets interesting. If Bishop plays 17 or less games in the NHL this season, he becomes a UFA, but if he plays 17 or more, he becomes a RFA. This is sure to get interesting.

Antero Niittymaki traded?

Antero Niittymaki no longer has a locker stall in the HP pavillion. The official statement is that he is on a conditioning stint. I talked to my sources and they are saying that a trade is probably imminent.

Brandon Yip Claimed By The Nashville Predators

Winger Brandon Yip has been clamied on waivers by the Nashville Predators. The winger has been having a bad season with the Colorado Avalanche playing only ten games this season with zero points, eight PIM and a +/- of 1. This move by the Predators is more of a depth move, making the team depth and wing a bit more deep.

Talent Analysis:
He is a tough versatile winger that does go in to the dirty spots. His type of "dirty" is different from most players as he uses his stick to get the puck instead of using the body. He has the offensive talents needed to play as a full time second winger. He needs to be a bit more disciplined though. I see him as a third line winger.

Is the Winter Classic in trouble?

Could next year's winter classic be in trouble? The big question about next year's Winter Classic is the amount of profit that the NHL is making for the Winter Classic. According to sources, the NHL did not make a lot of money this year from the Winter Classic. I had a chat with my sources and they told me that this could be the one hurdle from making the actual thing official.

Hurricanes and Panthers Trade

Certainly not the bang we were all expecting ,but...

Carolina Hurricanes acquire:
Evgeni Dadonov
A.J. Jenks

Florida Panthers acquire:
Jon Matsumoto
Mattias Lindstrom

Update:
9:45 It is being reported right now that Evgeni Dadonov requested the trade.

Analysis:
Evgeni Dadonov: Good winger. Good second line potential. Currently playing in the AHL ,but I fully expect him to play in the NHL next year. Lots of heart. Willing to go dirty in areas, small players like him usually don't. Needs to work on defensive game.

A.J. Jenks: Good Strong power forward. Will need time to develop. Will be a good power forward. Just needs time.

Jon Matsumoto: Good NHL ready third liner. Great eyes. Knows how and where to pass. Can score, but must in more effort.

Mattias Lindstrom: A lot like Tomas Holmstrom. If he works on the right things, he will turn in to one. Extremely physical, with nice HockeyIQ. Needs to work on speed. I see him as a third liner.

2012 All-Star Game Captains named

The two captains have been named for this year's all star game. Daniel Alfredsson and Zdeno Chara will take the stands as they prepare for the upcoming All-Star fantasy draft. Many questions though at the All-Star Draft. Will the Sedins twins get split up again like last year and who will go last overall. Last year, it was Phil Kessel and he's been on a tear so far this season. My predictions is that whoever gets drafted last will be in the top ten scoring in 2012-2013.

Your thoughts on the All Star game and Fantasy Draft. Comment Below!!!

2013 Winter Classic. Toronto Maple Leafs vs Detroit Red Wings?

Lots of rumors have been circulating about the Wings and the Leafs in next year's Winter Classic. According to Ansar Khan of MLive confirms that the deal with the NHL, Red Wings, and the Leafs have been finalized. I spoke to one of my sources and he has stated that he would be "very suprised" if the Wings and Leafs aren't in next year's Classic. However, Lance Horby of the Toronto Sun makes a very good point. The University of Michigan's stadium doesn't allow alcohol in to the stadium and the beer concessions are often the largest money maker after the ticket sales. This would be perfect for the people of Detroit who have been struggling since the 2008 reccession. This would provide lots of jobs for the people of Detroit and the people of Toronto will flock down to watch this in bunches.

Reimer's Chance?

James Reimer hasn't played at all in 2012, Jonas Gustavsson has played all of the games since Reimer's last start. Could this homestand be his way of re-establishing himself as Toronto's number one goaltender? We don't know that for sure but Reimer has been playing poorly in his last 3 starts, going 0-1-1 in his last 3 starts with an .870 save percentage. In the 2011-2012 season, Reimer is 7-4-4, has a 3.00 GAA and a .900 save percentage, a far cry from his outstanding rookie year which he posted a record of 20-10-5, 2.60 GAA and a .921 save percentage in helping the Leafs almost make the playoffs. Jonas Gustavsson hasn't been playing well recently, allowing 6 goals in the past 2 games. So will this be Optimus Reim's chance to re-establish himself as Toronto's main 'tender?

Nazem Kadri and Luke Schenn scratched. Trade or something else?

Both Nazem Kadri and Luke Schenn are scratched for the Toronto Maple Leafs game tonight against the Ottawa Sentators. That has made the hockey world just go nuts. Both players have been named in trade talks. Schenn has been tied to Philadelphia while GM Brian Burke has notoriously said that if Kadri doesn't step up his game this year he could get traded. That has got the hockey fan in my extremley excited. What kind of player will the Leafs get in exchange for these players?

However, another side of the story. We wouldn't be suprised if Coach Ron Wilson scratched both of them just to mess with the media. This has been done before and knowing Coach Wilson, he would do that.

Updates:
2:21 Just did some looking around. Doubt that Kadri will be traded anytime tonight and his scratch has nothing to do with any trade. Luke Schenn on the other hand..

6:33 Mike Komisarek looks like the odd man out. Kessel gets the extra 'A' tonight while Kadri still isn't playing.

St Louis Blues. Suprise team of the year?

St Louis Blues, they are the tied for the league lead in points. Who would have guessed that near the mid point of the season, they would be this good? Personally we give most of the props to the goaltending duo of Brian Elliot and Jaroslav Halak. They have played tremendously well and have led the charge for the team. Elliot is finally playing like the goalie Ottawa wanted him to play like. However, not all of the credit can be given to the goalie. T.J. Oshie has been playing superb this year with 14 goals. He is a leader on this team and credit must me given to them.

Toronto Media Rant

The Leafs media is just getting ridculous. The Toronto Suns' Wednesday headline says that James Reimer should be traded. I try usually not to be biased, but this is just stupid. Yes he hasn't played since December 31st but why? Because Jonas Gustavsson has been playing extremly well two out of his career shutouts have been in the last few days. Need I say more?

Minor League Deal.
The Florida Panthers have traded Angelo Esposito to the Dallas Stars for Ondrej Roman.

Analysis:
Angelo Esposito is a talented offensive wise ,but two injuries have really derailed his growth. I don't ever see him ever playing in the NHL full time. I would consider him a draft bust. He was drafted 20st overall, ahead of Max Pacioretty (22nd Overall) and David Perron (26th Overall).

Ondrej Roman
Talented playmaker with a bit of upside. Will need to work on defensive game. I see him maybe a third line player.

Michael Cammalleri Traded

Michael Cammalleri has been pulled off the ice for the 3rd period. As per @RealKyper , he is not hurt and that a deal may be in the works. It is openly known he does not like it a lot in Montreal and there is rumblings that he requested the trade.

Updates:
9:46 @eklund is saying he could be going to Columbus or Florida. I'm hearing Columbus and maybe Winnipeg instead.

9:47 He is definitely traded. It's pretty much confirmed right now. Calgary but for who?
9:51 Hearing that the Cammalleri getting traded might not be the last for today. Carolina and Montreal are talking as well.
9:53 Finally got names Rene Bourque and someone else.
10:00 OFFICIAL. Michael Cammalleri, Karri Ramo, 5th round pick for Rene Bourque, Patrick Holland and a 2nd pick in the 2013
10:20 Darren Dreger has just tweeted that Rene Bourque may have wanted out as well.

Calgary Gets:
Cammalleri: Good two way player, knows how to pass and shoot well. Needs to get in to dirty areas more.

Ramo: Quick Player, blocks shots well, needs to improve in rebounds. Currently playing KHL. We doubt he will come to the NHL due to the fact he is one of the top goalies in the KHL and if he comes would be in the AHL behind Mikka Kipprusoff and Leland Irving.

5th Round Pick in 2012

Montreal Gets:
Rene Bourque: A lot like Cammalleri but doesnt have that much offensive talent. However, will get in to the dirty areas a lot more.

Patrick Holland: Playing in the WHL. Will be a long term project. A lot like Rene Borque. Second or Third Liner. Will need time to develop.

2nd Round Pick in 2013

Leafs Rumor Update

Yesterday we talked about a Schenn for Schenn deal and how we doubted such a deal would happen. We can confirm that the Leafs would not be intrested in such a deal. My source suggested maybe a player like James Van Riemsdyk instead. Now Hockey Break (@hockeybreak) seems to be in complete agreement..

Would you like to see such a trade happen? Comment Below!

Leafs Rumors + Sidney Crosby Update

Sidney Crosby will be skating on his own in the next Penguin's roadtrip. It's great news for all Penguins fans and Canadian hockey fans as well. However, don't expect him to play for a little while. It is promising news ,but not great news.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs make a trade within the next few days, don't be surprised. Talks about them are intensifying extremely and they are intense. Management knows that the team can't be on the bubble like that for the playoffs and don't mind making a trade. The names that are mentioned the most are Luke Schenn, Clarke McArthur, and Cody Franson. I talked with my sources and they confirmed what everyone is saying. The Leafs either want a veteran goalie or a top six forward. There were talks about a Schenn for Schenn trade ,but personally I just don't see that happening. Brayden Schenn is an elite talent with first line potential, don't get me wrong, but the Leafs still love Nazem Kadri and a Brayden Schenn type player would just take Kadri out of the equation.

Gilbert Brule To Phoenix

The Phoenix Coyotes have picked up C Gilbert Brule on Re-Entry Waivers from the Edmonton Oilers.

Analysis: He is a draft bust. Period. Taken 6th Overall, above the likes of Anze Kopitar (11th Overall), Jack Skille (7th Overall), and Devin Setoguchi (8th Overall). He's a third line player that can have rare flashes of brilliance that can make him a second liner at times. He's a lot like a Kyle Turris the fact that they are both draft busts and had such great potential. Comes at a lot cheaper price though.

Dustin Penner injured while eating pancakes.

Title says all. Do I even need to elaborate? Who hurts their back eating pancakes? I think from now on someone should just feed him... When I eat pancakes I should where a brace to make sure I don't hurt myself either... Should the pancake house have a waiver form you have to sign before you go in? LOL this was just too funny to pass up.

Scott Arniel Fired

The Columbus Blue Jackets have fired Head Coach Scott Arniel. Assistant head coach Todd Richards has been named interm head coach. This move has beeen expected since the Paul Maurice firing.

Iginla to Canucks?

HockeyBreak (@HockeyBreak) has confirmed that the Vancouver Canucks have shown interest in the Calgary Flames' Jarome Iginla. He also says that Canucks' management has talked owner Mr. Aquilini about acquiring the forward.

My sources told me that they would expect a player like Alex Burrows, Corey Schneider, or Cody Hodgson, and a first rounder and a few other things included for a player like him.

Other Rumors:

  • Super Trade: Nash for Getzlaf? - Doesn't seem likely but would blow the league up if it happens.
  • Habs are interested in Francois Beauchemin - Is it just me or do the Habs love the old Leafs defenseman? Hal Gill, now maybe Francois Beauchemin?
  • Tom Gleason's name has been floating around a lot...
  • Kings and Lightning could have a massive trade if one of the players waives their NTC - I'm thinking maybe Vincent Lecavalier or maybe Mike Richards?
  • Hemsky and Okposo linked to Pittsburgh. - With their injury woes, i'm not surprised.

Pittsburgh Panic Mode?

With Crosby, Letang, Staal, Neal, and Adams all injured, should the Penguins be in panic mode? The marquee players they have left are Evgeni Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury. This blogger thinks that the next few games will tell GM Ray Shero what to do up till the trade deadline. If the team seems capable, Shero should just relax and lets his team work. However, if the team seems to tank, panic mode should be put in and Shero needs players who can score. What happens waits to be seen.

NHLPA Realignment Rejection

Yesterday, the NHLPA rejected the proposal that was put forward to split the league up into four conferences. Instead, they would prefer if the league stayed the same. Here are some reactions that have been shown since the rejection:

NHL: Obviously, they'd be disappointed that the proposal wasn't agreed on.

NHL Accountant: They have to be beside themselves right now. This move would have been a great move economically with the amount of money spent on airfare being dramatically because you don't have those expensive flights from Columbus to LA as often.

NHL Board of Directors: Reaction from Jimmy Devellano was interesting. He was visibly upset and disappointed as well. He serves as the Senior Vice President of the Detroit Red Wings. His main complain was that teams in the middle like Detroit has to travel to places like LA, Vancouver, Phoenix twice a year and it is tough on his players. Games would be finished at 1 A.M. Detroit time and the players would be exhausted.

NHL Players: They're disappointed, they vouched for this because of the easier schedule and the less travelling. The teams in the middle like St. Louis, Columbus, Detroit, the players overwhelmingly wanted this realignment to go through.

NHLPA: Ah the most important people, NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr released a statement explaining why the NHLPA did not approve the change, " Two substantial Player concerns emerged: (1) whether the new structure would result in increased and more onerous travel; and (2) the disparity in chances of making the playoffs between the smaller and larger divisions."

Fans: Fans in the central areas were hoping this would go  through so fans don't have to stay up till midnight or 1 AM just to watch a game.

Blogger: Dammit, so close, I was hoping to see the sponsorship for the conference names, Apple Conference, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Conference, and Blackberry Conference because you know RIM likes to put their name in everything...

New York Rangers: Top Tier Team or Lucky Streak?

The New York Rangers are on top of the NHL, boasting a record of 26-9-4, beating the next teams, Pittsburgh and Vancouver, by 3 points.

Everything seems to be clicking for them, Lundqvist is a top goaltender who can shut down teams, the back up Martin Biron is good enough to be a starter. Marian Gaborik seems to have re found his scoring touch (23 goals, 34 points). Newly acquired centre Brad Richards seems to thrive in the spotlight at MSG. Captain Ryan Callahan is doing nicely after being appointed the leader of the team. The only disappointment in my opinion, would be Brandon Dubinsky, but he is starting to heat up as well.

The coach, John Tortorella, has satirical post game comments (including one after the Winter Classic about the officiating which got him fined).

The Rangers weren't always like this. Barely squeaking in the playoffs last year as the eighth seed, they were dispatched by the Capitals in 5 games. During the offseason, they signed coveted free agent Brad Richards, physical winger Michael Rupp, resigned RFA captain Ryan Callahan. Yes, Ranger's GM Glen Sather seems to have readied his team for the playoffs during the 2011-2012 season with his major deals. Sure the team looks good on paper, but would the team perform and work together during the season?

A little bit over 1/3 through the NHL season, the Ranger's have quashed any doubts about that issue, but can they finish the season strong as the number 1 seed? We can't know that for sure but right now, the Rangers are the best team in the league.

Philadelphia Trade?

Matt Walker has been placed on waivers. I did some emailing and it seems to be a precursor for another move. Hearing Tom Gleason's name being out a lot. We'll wait and see, this is a strange move to say the least.

Official: Calgary Trade.

We told you about the Calgary trade last night, and a trade did happen, but i'm gonna be completely honest with you, we were expecting something much bigger. Nevertheless, this is the trade:

Tampa Bay Lightning acquire:
D Brendan Mikkelsson

Analysis:
Great Checker, Strong Puck Handler, Smooth Skater.
Will make a good 3rd defensive pair.

Calgary Flames acquire:
C Blair Jones

Analysis:
Knows how to improve his game, good shot, verge of making the team or near the top of the organization in ranking of prospects.
Will make a good second line on a weak team, to a third line on a bad team, but I see him as more of a second line player. Has the guts to make the riskier moves to score a goal.

Calgary Trade?

Lots of rumblings on twitter that the Calgary Flames are close to making a deal. Josh Rimer is saying that Jay Feaster is "beside himself" after tonight's 9-0 loss. Confirmed with sources and they have told me, it won't be a minor trade. Let's see what happens, it could be blockbuster, it could be nothing!

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Ducks GM Bob Murray confirmed both Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan are both in play on trade talks. However, the only players considered "untouchables" are Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne.

Just a funny side note, Randy Cunneyworth by starting off with "Je suis tres content pour Lars." Just wanted to say to Cunneyworth, good job.

Rumors

New wave today:

  • Internet Chatter on Alex Semin to Detroit
  • Confirmed that Toronto has been scouting Blue Jacket's Derrick Brassard, but maybe Jeff Carter as well?
  • Habs looking at Guy Boucher? - makes sense because of Boucher's background
  • Ryan Malone had been approached with offers ,but has refused to waive his NTC. Only willing to trade with Pittsburgh. - Makes sense as well due to him being from there and having such a great tenure there.
  • Leafs interested in a Josh Harding or Johnathan Bernier. I've heard that the Lightning are also intrested in the same two players. However, I had a chat with a source and he said Toronto might come up with a short term solution as well. Players such as Evgeni Nabokov, have been as targets.

John Madden signs with Florida

We have told you previously, but it is now official. John Madden has signed with the Florida Panthers. It is a one year contract. He will be wearing No.10 and we predict he will play on the third line.

Canada VS Russia

We're going to try something special! We're going to try something like live blogging, editing this a lot more than usual. Also, we would love it if a conversation got going and comments on the go as well! Comment Below! :)

Russia Key To Victory: Break down the Defense, Go pick up garbage goals.
Canada Key To Victory: Keep the Russians moving, they've played 2 games in two days and will be tired.

Notes:
Pre Game:
Winner gets Sweden, Loser gets Finland
The Saddledome looks electric right now
Scott Wedgewood leading the pack tonight, starting in net.
Canada looks more energized getting out of the tunnel
Scott Wedgewood is FLEXIBLE.

1st Period
Russian defender down, unable to see the last name, injuries are adding up for Russians.
Russia will be playing with three lines.
Nesterov is injured, however the stick looks like a Russian players' . Tough break for Canada.
Tough Break for Canada, Murray takes out Wedgewood and Russia scores, 1-0
SO CLOSE!
Naumenkov does a stupid play and decides to push a player over.
It could have been called so many things, Cross Checking, Unsportsmalike, interference..
ALMOST A GOAL!
Great save by the goalie of the Russians. (sorry for the lack of names. They're so confusing..)
A hook? I didn't see that...
Playing Illmerica at the intermission? oh yeah!
2-0. Canada needs to calm down.
Ryan Murray must feel horrible right now.
Five on Three, Canada must convert.
four on three, Clear dive..
Keep the pressure on Russian goalie
Great Way to end the period,  Dougie Hamilton destroying a Russian player.

Second Period:
Canada starting off with a sense of urgency.
Few bad breaks for Canada.
Lots of pressure
Delayed penalty on Russia
GOAAAAAL BRETT CONNOLLY! 2-1
Huge hit. Russian Injury. Another one.
Another quick goal by Russia, good hustle. 3-1
Another injury to Russia. 4th already.
Russia comes in and it's 4-1.
Wedgewood is down.
5th injury, this is getting ridiculous
Another goal for Russia 5-1
Timeout Canada

Well Alson is done for the night! Welcome to the newbie Wexler!
5-1 Russia and their power play is pressuring right now
The canadians kill off the power play till the half
Right at the end of the 2nd period the crowd loudly jeers the Canadians for their disappointing effort
Overall Canada's play in this period was mediocre and they should been less physical and should of held back on penalties. They should also deny many odd- man rushes by the defense playing more conservatively instead of the defense playing aggressively.
5-1 for the Russians and look to be the opponents of Sweden but we all remember last year when the Russians had a 3 goal deficit going into the 3rd period so Canada may repeat history to obtain this miracle!!!

3rd Period:
Canada has just killed off their 1st penalty
Brett Connolly shoves down a Russian player with no penalty...  Nice
Nice breakout by Connolly's line to start a 3 on 2 rush
Bad play by the Canadian defense after they could not hold in the puck during a high-pressure shift
Dougie Hamilton at it again with another huge hit!
Visintin knocked down behind the net and the Russians could not convert on the open net
Penalty coming to Russia for Tripping
I am really waiting for Canada to have a power play opportunity
Canada's power play is a shooting power play where the point is to get more shots than to pass but they failed to score during it
Canada allows another odd man rush letting the Russians to score another :( 6-1 Russia
Mini scrum in front of the Russian goal...  Canada is getting pissed
Right after the commercial, Canada's Dougie Hamilton scores his 2nd on the power play 6-2 Russia
That was the first power play goal the Russians allowed in the whole tournament
Canada scores another quick goal off of a Russian defender!!! 6-3 Russia
Russia calls a timeout
Many opportunities by both Russia and Canada with fast breaks and surpassingly no penalty on Canada during Russia's break
Dougie Hamilton another goal making it a close game!!!!!! 6-4 Russia  I have hope!!!!
Canada's aggressive offense draws a hooking penalty at the side of the Russian goal
Canada's power play is taking shots from the point with traffic
CANADA another power play goal!!!!!!!!!! 6-5 Russia
Canada's momentum is going to carry them to victory in this game!!!!
Russia's starting goaltender is pulled after giving up 4 goals in 5 minutes!!!
1:03 left in the 3rd, Faceoff in the Russian's side, empty net, lets see what happens!!!

Post Game:
Nice effort by Canada but they have failed to defeat the Russian in the Semi Finals
Canada will now compete against Finland for the bronze medal
As for Russia they are going to have to face the always tough Swedish team
My thoughts on the gold medal game is that Sweden will beat Russia because of their speed
But as always the IIHF Gold Medal Game is never the same without Canada

Leafs, Ducks Trade!

Breaking: Luca Caputi has been traded to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Nicolas Deschamps.

Analysis:
Both players have been disappointing after being drafted at such a high spot. Even though Caputi was drafted in the fourth round, he was drafted before players such as Keith Aulie, and Jamie Benn. Maybe you consider them late round gems, but consider this. Caputi was considered a 40th overall pick by some scouts. They claimed that he was a great package of both size and skill possessing a long reach, but he managed to drop into the 4th round. Teams passed on him due to his inconsistent play of edge and skill with a lack of effective hitting. He has the making of a power forward ,but will need to improve on his skating speed. At best, he projects to be a third liner on a good team, second liner at a bad team.

Nicolas Deschamps was drafted in the second round by the Anaheim Ducks. 35th overall, he was drafted ahead of players like Roman Josi, Patrice Cormier, Luke Adam, and Derek Stepan. He has the making of a good offensive center. He has shown that he is a good offensive threat in juniors where he racked up 38 goals and 96 assists in one year.  He projects to be a second line center, but many scouts do not expect him to live up to his potential.  They expect him to be an emergency NHL'er at best.

Moves like Jagr?

The Ranger's first goal, by Michael Rupp, had a lot of controversy over it because he supposedly copied Jaromir Jagr's way of celebrating a goal. Jagr wasn't angry at Rupp and he even quipped that Rupp doesn't score a lot of goals. Rupp said he did it for fun and he didn't mean to disrespect Jagr. Hmmmm, do you think he's got the Moves like Jagr? :)

Winter Classic

Notes:
Intros were interesting?
Sort of unnecessary to have two fighter jets just randomly fly across..
The players seem to have played harder in the first few minutes.
Lots of bad karma surrounding Jaromir Jagr eh? He disses the rink so now he has an equipment issue. Funny stuff.

News About The Habs:
Tomas Plekanec and P.K. Subban got in a fist fight during practice today.
